What Law Firms Need to Know About the “Right to Be Forgotten”

If you’ve been wondering what the “right to be forgotten” means to you, you aren’t alone. In a May 2014 ruling, Europe’s highest court determined that search engines such as Google must comply with requests by individuals to remove links to certain unflattering information that pop up in searches of their names. The now-infamous ruling, establishing a so-called “right to be forgotten,” has already generated more than 70,000 link-removal requests covering 250,000 web pages and raised a hornet’s nest of questions about how the decision will be implemented.
